Don't They Know We're In A Freakin' Recession?

Whether you choose to admit it or not, we are, and for the life of me, I can't understand why I got some strange looks from my co-workers when I told them I was NOT participating in the holiday gift exchange. Give me a freakin' break! I'm broke! I'm a single lady living (barely) on the outskirts of one of the most expensive cities in the country, and I'm a struggling entrepreneur. I am struggling financially as I am sure lots of people are, so please forgive me if I'm sounding a little Scrooge-ish. Ninety percent of my gifts this year will be handmade-if not by me-then by my fellow crafters. I don't feel the need to play white elephant with a bunch of folks who barely give me the time of day as it is, and $25 is more than I'm spending on gifts for my own family! Okay, I'm jumping off my soap box. I just had to get that off my chest! Oh, I also forgot to mention that I'm making turkey meatballs for these moochers. Okay, I'm done for real this time.

My gifts this year are all handmade knits or soaps except for the table and chair set for Babycakes and her daddy's two shirts. Oh, and two pairs of store socks for the lady who somehow wore out 5 pairs of handknit socks this year. Although I can't figure out how they wore out so fast unless she thought saying they wore out sounded better than telling me she felted them.

I hear you, thank goodness our office decided not to exchange presents this year first time in 6 years! Usually they do the $25 thing but because I bring my BF to the party they would make quests bring stuff too so that would mean $50 on gifts to people I could honestly careless about buying presents for. The funny thing is no one ever wanted to do the exchange they finally caught on I guess.

I decided I am going to make up a small ziplock bag of homemade chex mix for the girls I work with and call it a day! which shhh don't tell I used lots of coupons to buy the stuff so it isn't costing me much to make.
