Get "Green" Hair With Everyday Household Products

It's been around for ages, and it's probably in your kitchen cupboard. Apple Cider Vinegar is the bomb! It's chemical-free and it's cheap, and it makes the most excellent hair rinse! If it weren't for ACV, I wouldn't be able to achieve all these hairstyles that require some not-so-chemical-free hair products. I admittedly use a lot of product in my hair to achieve certain styles. I offset that buy cleansing my hair with all-natural, sulfate-free cleansers and conditioners. I absolutely love Dr. Bronner's liquid Castile soap. You know the one with all that writing all over the bottle. I use Dr. Bronner's to wash my hair, my undies, and to clean my toilet-yes, clean the twa-let! It will admittedly take some getting used to after the first couple of uses.

You may notice that your hair feels a little straw-y or hard, but your hair is in "shock" and will quickly adapt to it. I use the ACV full-strength, about a cup's worth after I shampoo to detangle and get all the residual product out. I leave it in for about 5 minutes (placing a plastic cap over my hair.) This is the last step after I shampoo and condition. Yeah, it smells like vinegar, but once your rinse your hair, the smell will dissipate. Or you can cut it with a little honey or diluted lemon juice and water. It keeps the frizz at bay, and your hair will be soft and silky. Give it a try!

This Stuff Is Crap....

But I'm not giving up!!! Remember that potion I made a few weeks back to use for my hair? Well, my hair looks and feels like a bale of sunburned hay. Where, o where did I go wrong? I thought this stuff would be the answer to my BBD (that's broke, busted & disgusted) prayers! Of course it would have helped if I measured everything, but I just threw everything in a pot and started cookin'. I need to wash it out and start fresh, but I do not have wash and go hair. When water touches it, my hair has to be styled. So, I'm back to the drawing board. I'm going to carefully measure my ingredients this time. I think I'll forgo the beeswax-does nothing for me! Thank goodness tomorrow is the start of the weekend and I can just let it be!

Move Over Carol's Daughter....

Cuz I'm making my own hair products now! We are in a recession. There's no doubt about that, and I can no longer afford my beloved Hair Balm from Carol's Daughter. It retails for $12.00 for 4 oz. Come on CD! You are pimping me and lots of other women out there! I'm not knocking their hustle, but I actually took the time to read the label, and you know what? I've got 8 out of the 10 ingredients in my soap making arsenal. Hot diggidy! I'm gonna make my own hair balm, and it didn't turn out half bad!

My balm is packed in an 8 oz. jar and it contains the following:
  • Coconut Oil
  • Palm Kernel Oil
  • Sweet Almond Oil
  • Olive Oil
  • Beeswax
  • Cocoa Butter
  • Fragrance (I used Dragonberry)

I don't much care for digging my hands in the jar. I've ordered a few tall bottles to put my future batches in. I admit, it's not Carol's Daughter, but it does what I need it to do which is moisturize and condition my brutally dry hair. I slather this on section by section after I wash my hair with a sulfate-free shampoo and twist it all over. My hair stays nice and shiny for up to 3 days after which my hair is dry as a bone. I think I'll stick with this for a while. If Obama gives us a stimulus check, maybe I'll buy the real thing.
